Hatsof theHills

Join tutor Kate Hayes for a 2-day HAT making workshop. Learn traditional skills to make a wool hat.
Workshop is part of CELT Weekend-in-the-hills May 2026
Steeped in ancient tradition, participants will rediscover the art of wool alchemy, shaping, softening, and forming through the elemental meeting of water, wool, natural oils and human hand.
You'll learn how our ancestors once prepared wool fibres, known as carding using simple wooden paddles made from blackthorn thorns, how communities gathered to share skills stories and laughter while working.
This workshop warmly welcomes participants of all abilities and levels of experience, from complete beginners to those already familiar with wool crafts. Young adults and children accompanied by an adult are also welcome.
As an autistic adult myself I value and welcome neurodivergent participants, I aim to create a space that feels calm supportive and inclusive for everyone.
